I used to spend a lot of time composing rhymes that didn t rhyme
I gave the love I had to give and kept a worried mind
but it wasn t much fun.
I used to hang around the block,

People s gettin older in their minds.
Ties are gettin stronger all the time.
Life is gettin evil,
musicians miss the rhythm
but you sing in time.
I used to have a dog named Tan, impossibly white, impossibly mild.
He followed me and my parents car under the wheels of a truck.
Tan, you are out of luck.
I had to grow with painful fears about dead dogs and rear view mirrors
but never missed my mom s perfume so much as I miss you.
The feeling ain t new.
