一、表示层次性的衔接词
1.衔接词：
（1）首先：firstly, to begin with; in the first place; in the first instance
（2）其次：secondly, in the second place; then
（3）最后：last but not the least; finally; at last; in the end; lastly
（4）此外：whats more, besides; moreover; furthermore; in addition
2.例句：
To begin with, I’d like to extend my gratitude to all distinguished guests.
首先我想对各位尊贵的来宾表示感谢。
Firstly, its too expensive, and secondly, its not sturdy.
首先，它价格太贵，其次，它不耐用。
Lastly, I would like to thank my parents for all their support.
最后，我想感谢父母对我的全力支持。
二、表示转折关系的衔接词
1.衔接词：
（1）然而：but, yet, while, whereas, nevertheless, however
（2）尽管，虽然：though, although
（3）反而，代替，而不是：instead, instead of

Some of the students got good results, whereas others do not.
一些学生取得了好成绩，然而其他的则不然。
I was deeply moved by her, although I didn’t know her.
我被她深深感动了，尽管我不认识她。
She didn’t say anything. Instead, she left the room.
她什么也没说，反而离开了房间。
三、表示因果关系的衔接词
1.衔接词：
（1）因为：because, for, because of, owing to, on account of, due to
（2）为了：for this (that, these, those) reason(s)
（3）因此：thus, hence, therefore
（4）相应地：consequently, accordingly
（5）结果：as a result, so that
2.例句
The sports meeting was postponed because of the bad weather.
因为天气不好，运动会延期了。
For that reason, I didn’t believe what he said.
鉴于此，我不信他说的话。
Hes 19 now and therefore is eligible to vote.
他现在19岁了，因此有投票选举的资格。
She got up late and consequently was late for school.
她起床晚了，结果上学迟到了。
四、表示例证关系的衔接词
1.衔接词
（1）也就是说：namely, that is, that is to say
（2）例如：for example, for instance, such as
（3）举例来说：to illustrate
（4）以……为例：take…as an example
2.例句
He left without saying good-bye, that is to say, he didn’t want to be found.
他不辞而别，也就是说他不想被找到。
Many factors should be considered, for example, class, gender, and age.
许多因素都应该考虑到，如阶级、性别及年龄。
He took China as an example when talking about natural resources.
谈到自然资源的时候他以中国为例。
