北京大学（简称北大，Peking University），于1898年始建，坐落于北京市，由中华人民共和国教育部直属，是中国近现代第一所国立综合性大学，为九校联盟、亚洲大学联盟等联盟成员，位列211工程985工程世界一流大学和一流学科。其前身是京师大学堂。
该大学1912年曾更名国立北京大学。1937年，抗日战争爆发后，北大与清华、南开合并组建国立西南联合大学。1946年，迁回北平复校。1952年，迁入原燕京大学校园（燕园）。2000年，北京医科大学回归，成为北京大学医学部。

Peking University (Peking University for short), founded in 1898, is located in Beijing, under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China. It is the first national comprehensive University in modern China. It is a member of the Nine University Alliance, the Asian University Alliance and other alliances. It is listed in "Project 211", "Project 985" and "World-Class University and First-Class Discipline". It was formerly known as the Capital University.
The university was renamed National Peking University in 1912. In 1937, after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Peking University merged with Tsinghua University and Nankai University to form the National Southwest Associated University. In 1946, he moved back to Peiping and resumed school. 1952 It moved to the former campus of Yenching University (Yanyuan). In 2000, Beijing Medical University returned and became the Department of Medicine of Peking University.
