奧伦纳素历史

  he story of Erno Laszlo!

Erno Laszlo, a skin care range that created history in the cosmetic world is now rumoured to set foot in UAE. Nirmal Khanna narrates its success story...

A major American cosmetics company is set to make a comeback into the UAE market and will probably nudge other brands off the shelves as the story behind its myriad successes is revealed.

Erno Laszlo, a skincare range, which has been used for decades by the rich and famous of the United States apart from titled European royalty, celebrities from the social circuit plus Hollywood stars, is being re-launched after a short period of being dormant.

The story unfolds: Once upon a time, in a land of princes and palaces, there lived a not-so-beautiful princess. Denied fairytale happiness, she became a recluse at court, bothered largely by her plainness. She was Princess Stephanie, widow of Crown Prince Rudolf of the Hapsburg dynasty. Married at 15, her dashing husband found her unattractive and began consorting with the great beauties of Europe.

Later, the prince and his mistress were found dead in at the Mayerling hunting lodge. The princess became more of a recluse but in her middle age, her father married her off again, elevating her husband to a prince.

Soon to come into her life was a young dermatologist, Erno Laszlo, a Hungarian, who was developing a specialised range of skincare. He was escorted to the palace and a doctor/patient relationship was born. The princess, who followed his regime and used his creams regularly, soon had a beautiful skin and with this came a new confidence.

The doctor developed his own methods of 'prevention, protection and correction 'apart from a personalised regime. He also advocated washing the face and splashing on lots of water.

Each person was given a specialised treatment and spoke of remarkable results. As news of his success spread he list of clients grew rapidly.

In 1937 Erno Laszlo went visit some immigrant friends who were based in Hollywood and seeing the potential in the United States, two years later, he migrated and set up home in New York.

Celebrities arrived at his doorstep. Amongst them was Baroness Cecile de Rothschild, the Duchess of Windsor, Marjorie Merewether Post, and Gloria Vanderbilt. Clients were accepted only after a recommendation and then again, were restricted.

His reputation continued to grow, as did his list of clients, which later included even President and Jacqueline Kennedy. Erno Laszlo died in 1973 but his company, which is, now headed by Robert Neilson, and Jane Terker, both veterans of the cosmetics' industry, has kept to his principles of skincare. The legendary dermatologist had developed a system of 'clocking the skin' for accurately identifying skin types-oily, dry and normal. There are seven clocks each representing skin type classification According to him 12 o'clock was the perfectly balanced skin and each half-hour before or after represented a different type. According to this system, his prescriptions were dispended.

Dr Laszlo developed his own,' water wash technique'. He advised that a person should fill a basin with warm water. Then take a bit of Active pHelityl oil in the palm, smooth it over the face. Then, dip a bar of Active pHelityl soap into hot water and rub onto the oily skin. Make a rich lather of the soap and massage it into the skin. Splash on the treatment water twenty times and then ten with fresh warm water. This was followed by a formulation to suit the skin.

Sounds different and interesting? Yes, but obviously the results are great or he would not have had such an impressive clientele. It took the doctor years to perfect the formulation and then he combined it with a liberal use of water.

And to quote Dr Erno Laszlo, 'If water did not exist, I would have had to invent it."
